Only 82 days until the 2012 Bills Season begins. Why #82 Ruvell Martin is the most important player on the team.

There’s a high probability that the #2 Wide Receiver on this team is the spot that is going to make the most difference this year–making that player the most important player of the team.

Ruvell Martin might just have a shot.

A seven year NFL vet with stints on the Chargers (Buddy Nix), the Rams, the Packers, and the Seahawks–Martin joined the Bills in late August of last year. That didn’t give him a lot of time to get acclimated to his new team, but he still managed to contribute on special teams (one forced fumble) and at receiver (7 catches for 82 yards).

He has all of the height and weight (6’4″, 216) you’d ever want out of a #2 receiver, and for an NFL WR he’s got gobs of experience. He even led NFL Europe in Receiving Yards (689) and Touchdowns (12) back in 2005. Might we be lucky enough to have another Freddie Jackson on our hands?

And we all probably remember last summer’s article in the Buffalo News singing his praises.  Unfortunately for Martin he was cut by the Bills less than 24 hours after that article came out. But luckily for the Bills, a team in need of depth at receiver, he rejoined the team.

Can he become the most important player of the team? If he truly emerges as a true #2 target for Fitz–Absolutely!
